14 February 2020 – Today is a special day because Creative Art and Design Practice (CADPP) also Development Studies Practice (DSPP) had finshed their program in Indonesia. They learned Bahasa Indonesia intensively in Lembaga Bahasa USD for 2 weeks and continued with the internship program to several offices they had chosen. This program was conducted by Australian Consortium For In Country Indonesian Studies (ACICIS) in several cities in Indonesia. Lembaga Bahasa USD was the learning institution partner that was trusted to teach the students to learn Bahasa Indonesia. The closing ceremony was held in Kundjono Room in Sanata Dharma University. It was a special occasion since the closing was not only for the students and teacher from LBUSD, but the tutors and mentors from each student during their internship was also invited to come to the closing ceremony. More than 100 people attended this closing ceremony. The closing was begun with teachers’ performance. They played traditional music instruments from Indonesia called Angklung. After a stunning performance from the teacher, there were some speeches from the representatives of Sanata Dharma University and ACICIS. Bapak Ouda Teda Ena, Vice Rector IV of Sanata Dharma University, gave his speech first. Then respectively, Ibu Bernardine Ria Lestari, Chief Director of Lembaga Bahasa USD, Bapak Adrian Budiman, ACICIS Resident Director, Ibu Maharani, APO of DSPP, and Ibu Elly, APO of CADPP, they gave their speeches about how this program work. They were very happy since the program ran smoothly and especially for CADPP. The program worked well even though this is the first time CADPP was held in Yogyakarta. Special traditional dance was performed by Sanata Dharma students through Grisadha, a students’ unit that specialized in dancing. They performed a traditional dance from West Java. The students enjoyed the performance while they had their dinner. There was short video that wrap up the whole learning activity from the teacher. They laughed watching their own selves in the video. After a short break, there was announcement for the CADPP and DSPP social media ambassador. Pak Nitesh and mbak Jessica were the social media ambassador for keeping the social media account of this program up to date. The last part of the closing ceremony was sharing session from several parties. Two students shared their experience during their learning process and working experience in the office. Two mentors also shared their experience on mentoring the students. They had an unforgettable experience during the internship. Sampai jumpa lagi sobat CADPP dan DSPP! Previous Next 13 February 2020 – This Thursday, Indonesian Language and Intensive Course (ILCIC) held a meeting with homestay owners. The meeting was held in Bale Nyoenya Restaurant. Bu Ria, the head of LBUSD and Bu Truly, the head of Asian Language Division, accompanied with 3 ILCIC coordinators met them there. They discussed the preparation for the next program from Kyoto Sangyo and Nanzan University Japan. Although they had been partnered for several years, this annual meeting is still important. Beside discussing the preparation for the new programs, this meeting was arranged to strengthen the relationship between the homestay owners and Lembaga Bahasa Universitas Sanata Dharma.  

Previous Next 7 February 2020 – Indonesian Language and Culture Intensive Course (ILCIC) of Lembaga Bahasa sent 3 teachers to Cirebon. They joined workshop on Pembelajaran dan Pengajaran BIPA Tingkat Dasar (Basic Teaching and Learning in BIPA) at Universitas Gunung Jati Cirebon. The workshop was held for 3 days, started from February 5th, 2020. Putri, Imas, and Wahyu, ILCIC teachers, were the representatives from LBUSD. The workshop was held at Medical Faculty Building in Gunung Jati University. On the first day, the workshop talked about the big picture of what is BIPA in general. It explained about the importance of learning Bahasa Indonesia, the opinion of people around the world toward Bahasa Indonesia, and the function of Bahasa Indonesian in international communication. There were several speeches from the representative of KEMDIKBUD (Ministry of Education), Afiliasi Pengajar dan Pegiat Bahasa Indonesia bagi Penutur Asing (Association for the Teaching and Promotion of Indonesian as a Foreign Language), and ex teacher from Pusat Pengembangan Strategi dan Diplomasi Kebahasaan (PPSDK). It was started at 8 AM and ended at 5.30 PM. The second day focused on BIPA teaching method. There were several speeches talked about teaching strategies, learning media that is suitable and interactive for the students, cross culture understanding, and the use off apps that encourage the student to learn Bahasa Indonesia. There was also a deep explanation about the newest syllabus, curriculum, and lesson plan related with learning process. The speakers explained how to teach BIPA from the Pemula until Mahir level. There was a different with the previous curriculum which was only six level. The second day last for 7 hours from 8 AM. The day was closed with a task for the third day which is micro teaching simulation related on BIPA teaching process. The last day was only for micro teaching simulation. Each group had to teach for approximately 20 minutes. The simulation held from 7 AM until 11 AM. Teaching simulation was also been marked by lecturer from Gunung Jati University and Language Center of West Java Province. Teacher from LBUSD got simulation for Pemula level talking about daily activity. Luckily, at the end of the workshop, there was announcement that the teacher from LBUSD got a Best Teacher predicate. We hope that it is not only good in the simulation, but also good at delivering Bahasa Indonesia for the foreigner. 

Previous Next 20 January 2020 – On this day, Indonesian Language and Culture Intensive Course (ILCIC) made this day as Hari Studi ILCIC. It is just a usual day but the teacher gathered in Realino Auditorium to listen to a speech from the senior teacher, also used to teach in ILCIC few years ago. This day, Ms. Chatarina Rahayu, S.Pd shared her experience on teaching Bahasa Indonesia in Australia. She is a teacher in Strathalbyn Christian College, a school in Geraldton, Australia. She explained about the curriculum of learning Bahasa Indonesia in Australia. There are several points that need to be achieved by students in learning Bahasa Indonesia. From curriculum, ILCIC teachers were curious to know about how the teachers in Australia implement the curriculum into learning activities in the class. There were number of things that is 180 degree different from the learning process in Indonesia. She shared her experience in controlling the learning process in the class. Her experienced in managing the class inspired the teachers here. They thought that the way to treat Australian students is 180 degrees different from Indonesian students. This is also useful tips for the ILCIC teachers later when they teach Australian students in the upcoming programs. Terima kasih Mbak Nana atas sharingnya.

Previous Next 14 January 2020 – This day, 38 students of Creative Arts and Design Professional Practice (CADPP) and Development Studies Professional Practice (DSPP) Program went to Beringharjo Traditional Market. It is located at Malioboro street near to Vanderwick fortress. They were divided into 8 groups which was led by whether a teacher or LO. They went there to experience how to buy things in Indonesian traditional market. The teacher gave them challenges to buy specific things. They had to buy 1 kg of salak (snake fruit), 5 gantungan kunci (keychain), 5 gelang (wristband), and 1 box of bakpia (traditional snack from Yogyakarta). The winner would be the group which spend less money. They went there at 9 AM from Lembaga Bahasa Universitas Sanata Dharma (LBUSD) using 2 buses. After they arrived at Malioboro street, they went to the kiosks and started bargaining. They use several Indonesian expressions such as “wah, mahal ya”, “bisa lebih murah”, “bisa menawar”, and so on. They said they really enjoyed this experience. Some of them bargained fluently, just like what Indonesian people did when they bargain the price of thing. After they finished on buying the things for the challenge, most of the students were exploring their skill by bargaining batik shirt for themselves. They really had a good time. They said that they could not do this process in Australia. Enjoy your bargaining, friends. Make sure you bargain with a good price for both of you and the seller. “Mau beli apa lagi?” 

Previous Next 13 January 2020 – Outdoor Activity (OA) was conducted by Center of English for International Communication (CEIC) on this Monday. This event is a routine activity for every program. All participants from different levels of class gather together to have a meaningful and fun activity. The teachers from the classes help the student enjoy the activity as well. This time the Outdoor Activity was attended by teachers of De Britto School who are the participant of recent CEIC’s private program. The event was called CEIC’s Game On! Around 30 participants came to the Outdoor Activity. They were then divided into six groups. The game was about answering quick questions about everyday things based on the survey. The group with the most common answer based on the survey got to go to the next stage of the game. The second stage of the game is fighting round. The groups should answer the question from the presenter as quickly as possible. The winner of the game was the group who had the most star given when they win the two stages in a row. All the participants were having fun. After the Outdoor Activity, the participants were divided based on the level to have a brief review of their course lessons because they will take their final exam in the next meeting of the course.

Previous Next 6 January 2020 – This day, 30 students from Australia arrived at Lembaga Bahasa Universitas Sanata Dharma (LBUSD). They joined Global Immersion Guarantee program from Australian Consortium In-Country Indonesian Studies (ACICIS). They only learned basic Bahasa Indonesia for 2 hours in the class and continued with tutorial session. They interviewed random Indonesian people around the campus. Bu Ria, the head of LBUSD opened the program by giving speech related to the culture in Yogyakarta and brief explanation about LBUSD. During her speech, she asked several students about their opinion of Indonesia. Some of them already mastered Bahasa Indonesia and answered using Bahasa Indonesia also. After the speech, the students followed the teacher to the class to learn Bahasa Indonesia. They told us that they were very happy to experience speaking Bahasa Indonesia with the native. Previous Next 3 January 2020 – Today, 38 college students from several universities in Australia joined the opening ceremony for Creative Arts and Design Professional Practice (CADPP) and Development Studies Professional Practice (DSPP) Program. These students will learn Bahasa Indonesia in Lembaga Bahasa Universitas Sanata Dharma (LBUSD). They will study Bahasa Indonesia and culture intensively for 2 weeks in LBUSD. After that, they will join the internship in many NGOs in Yogyakarta, Bali, Lombok, and Jakarta. This program is held in order to pack them with Bahasa Indonesia skills before doing the internship. They will practice their skills until February 14th. The opening ceremony was held in Driyarkara Seminar Room, 2nd floor of Auditorium Driyarkara Sanata Dharma University. The ceremony was held at 11 AM. They already got several plenary speeches from the Australian Consortium In-Country Indonesian Studies (ACICIS) related on how to survive in Yogyakarta one day before the opening. The ceremony was opened by special performance on traditional dance about bird of paradise’s dance when they are on mating season. It was a nice performance. Bapak Dr. Adrian Budiman, the ACICIS Resident Director, continued with his speech. He also had a chance to explain the New Colombo Plan. Then, Bapak Drs. Johannes Eka Priyatma, M.Sc., Ph.D., Rector of Sanata Dharma University, gave his speech and officially opened the program by hitting the gong three times. The session continued with some photo shoots and was closed with had a lunch together. Let’s hope that these 38 students could get many benefits on learning Bahasa Indonesia in LBUSD. Semoga sukses!

Previous Next 9 December 2019 – Today, 25 students of Global Immersion Guarantee Program batch December 2019 visited Lembaga Bahasa USD. These 25 students from Australia learned Bahasa Indonesia for 2 hours program. They came from Monash University in Australia. Bu Truly, the head of Asian language, opened the program with a brief speech. She also explained the structure of the institute briefly. After a short explanation from ILCIC coordinator, they were divided into several classes. They learned Bahasa Indonesia for 2 hours. Some students already learned Bahasa Indonesia before this, and some of them already fluent in speaking Bahasa Indonesia. Their abilities helped them in doing the next activity. They continued the activity with tutorial session to embrace their speaking skills. They interviewed random people around the campus with several question to guide their discussions. They looked very happy because they could experience the language directly with the natives. Enjoy the learning, friends. 

Previous Next 6 December 2019 – Six students from Kyoto Sangyo University (KSU) Japan had finished their study in Lembaga Bahasa Universitas Sanata Dharma (LBUSD). They learned in Lembaga Bahasa for this past 10 months. Here, they learned Bahasa Indonesia in ILCIC. Not only Bahasa Indonesia, to improve their global knowledge, they joined the English lesson in CEIC. This program is KSU’s third program in LBUSD. They were involved in several regular class activities in CEIC and EEC. As non-native language learners, they were very active to study the foreign languages. Some of them also learned Javanese language also. It was such a nice moment to have them as LBUSD students. The closing ceremony was held to sum up all the activities in LBUSD. It was held in Realino auditorium. Riku, one of the KSU students, and Putri, teacher, were the MC of the closing ceremony. They lead the event using Bahasa Indonesia from the beginning till the end. Bu Ria, the head of LBUSD, opened with a memorable opening speech. After that, it continued with sharing session from the students and teachers. They shared their experience during the learning process in LBUSD. The session was closed with a memorable video of their unforgettable moment in LBUSD. Right after the video ended, LBUSD gave some certificates and souvenir to mark that they had passed the language learning here. The certificates were given by Bu Ria, while the souvenirs were given by Bu Truly. The session was ended by taking photos together. It was not ended just like that, KSU students gave their last performance for the audiences. They did a drama that was prepared by them in a week. It was such a nice performance. They acted all out. Their drama was very entertaining.  The teacher also performed a drama right after their performance to complete this closing ceremony. The teachers also did it all out. It was an amazing moment for the students and teachers. Hopefully, they would not forget how to speak in Bahasa Indonesia.
